Whispers on the Dock

 ABOUT WHISPERS ON THE DOCK

Book 3 in the Postcards from Misty Harbor Inn series.

Three sisters. A charming inn. Hints of mystery and romance. And a gorgeous seaside setting. Escape to Misty Harbor Inn.

As Nantucket reaches the pinnacle of its summer glory, and the Marris sisters welcome guests at Misty Harbor Inn, youngest sister Sam Carter enters her mother’s cobbler recipe in the Summerfest baking contest. But she faces a formidable opponent, a past winner who is determined to keep her title even if it means stooping to dirty tactics. Can Sam’s newfound faith help her rise above the fray and reach out to this lonely woman? Meanwhile, an elderly guest arrives who knows the inn’s history, and the sisters are stunned to learn that their late mother lived there as a child. But she told them she’d never been to Nantucket until her honeymoon! Through the woman’s reminiscences and photos, the sisters make an intriguing discovery — not only about the mysterious Hannah Montague, the young woman who disappeared from the house in 1880, but also about their own family history.

Readers will delight in the inviting Nantucket setting and be enthralled by the adventures of these sisters who reunite to bring their mother’s Misty Harbor dreams to life.

Reader review . . . .

Sam, Caroline, and Gracie continue to run Misty Harbor Inn on Nantucket while trying to solve the decades-old mystery of Hannah Montague.  Sam still enjoys baking, and is trying to perfect her recipe for blackberry cobbler in order to enter the Summerfest baking contest.  The sisters welcome new guests to the inn, a novelist and a former resident of the house.  The elderly guest has surprising information that affects the sisters’ perception of their own family history.

Ahhh, the plot thickens!  The mystery surrounding Hannah Montague really picks up the pace this time with clues and secret passages discovered. It was like reading a middle-aged Nancy Drew, and I mean that as a compliment.  For me, this installment was the best of the series.

As for the guests we meet this time, Doris, of course, was a delight as the quintessential sweet, elderly lady.  She adds a Miss Marple flavor to the mix.  As for Trish and little Evelyn, hmmm….how do I say this without giving away any details?  My sympathies are with Evelyn, and Trish annoyed me.  But I did enjoy her book titles (Breathless Barbados Belle made me laugh out loud), and I appreciated the reference to Debbie Macomber.

Authors, say it isn’t so!  The blurbs all say this is the final installment, but some of us have grown very attached to the sisters and Misty Harbor Inn.  Please, take us back at least one more time to that cozy little inn on the island.
